Here's Ellie!

Ellie is a beautiful two year old alpaca at the farm. She's a lovely and feminine female out of our rose gray female, Elegant Rose, and our black herdsire, Abba's Black Knight. She has a very pretty head and good sound, compact conformation, just as we would expect out of Black Knight. Her color is somewhat patchy, with a large black spot on one leg and several along her top line, but her fleece is soft and has good character in lock structure and crimp style.

What a sweetie. Surprisingly alpacas are becoming quite popular here in the south of England. Several farms keep two or three of them. You sometimes see them in the fields with sheep.

I just love them,I went to Ireland last month to photograph a Wedding and the family bred Alpaca. They have the most wonderful faces, I will post a picture in the Common Room of the ones in Ireland just for you.

Some people don't like the dark spots in the fleece, but after the fleece is processed, it is all mixed together and those dark spots are blended with the light to make an even-colored spinning batt. I personally like the variety of colors, and if I were to choose one for my own personal fiber animal, I would almost certainly choose a pinto or an animal like Ellie, who had those variations in the fleece.

She's beautiful - want to snuggle up in her. Might have to settle for a sweater!
