a new project

I've decided to spin up some yarn for a stole. I've joined the Mystery Stole 4 group and they are knitting away, and I'm here spinning the yarn for it. I need about 1100 yards to complete it. I'm way behind because of the spinning. Hmmmm...

Anyway, it's a beaded lace stole. I've decided to use this wool:

It's a little hard to tell, but this is a light brown wool with noils of color scattered throughout. Maggie sent it to me, and I think it's about time I get cracking on spinning it! I also have beads for it - various shades of green and yellow seed beads - it's springtime here, and I have the urge to sow this new light brown garden.

Hopefully, the camera will return tomorrow. O lent it to a friend two weeks ago and they've been very slow about returning it. In fact, if I hadn't grumbled about it today, I doubt the camera would ever find it's way home. People here have a habit of just keeping things, and when the owner asks for it's return, somehow it was lent to another friend, who lent it to another friend, who thought it was a gift, etc etc etc. You get the idea. So, hopefully, tomorrow I'll have a camera and be able to put up some new photos of what I've been doing lately.

That's quite a project, 1100yards of laceweight handspun! But the fibre looks lovely, I'm sure it'll be interesting to spin, and knitting with handspun yarn is so worthwhile :)

I think your shawl will look lovely. I've never knitted with beads. Is that very hard?
It's so aggrivating when you loan something and it isn't returned.

Do you spin only with a spindle? I've only spun singles with a spindle. I have always plied with my wheel. I am wondering if my experience is lacking. I do so enjoying the spinning experience with the wheel, and less so with the spindle, though. Perhaps I need to attribute it to taste and preference. AND if I spun much with spindles...I would SO be collecting them. Wheels...they are harder to collect!
P.S. I meant to link to you on Saturday's post. I just forgot to go back and do so. I am sorry!

For now, I do only spin with spindles. I have an Ashford wheel at home in the USA, but the shipping is horrendous, so I have to content myself with the spindles. I learned on a spindle, but hated it. I love my wheel, but can't have it. Now, out of neccessity, I'm getting to know my spindles very well and have several to accomodate the several spinning projects that I have going on.

This project with beads shouldn't be hard, but time-consuming. The beads are not pre-strung, they are added to the stitch with a piece of floss or a tiny crochet hook just after creating it. It's a technique I haven't used much, which is one of the reasons I chose this project.

Hopefully, my spinning will improve, my lace-knitting will improve, and I'll become proficient at beading with this method. I hope I have the stole finished by the year's end...

Gotta get spinning!

Your spinning endeavors are so inspiring! Hopefully, once winter sets in, I'll get back on the wheel. Right now, I'm having too much fun outside to sit still!
